The Northwest does some interesting things this time of year. For instance yesterday was an amazing day of skiing powder ending in a storm, however we awoke to rain at the base this morning and 70+ mile an hour winds at the summit of Crystal Mountain Resort!!
Most the people who arrived at the mountain this morning ended up staying in their vehicles and heading home a decision they would later regret.
Upper mountain opened at about 10 AM to the hoots and hollers of those faithful skiers who stuck around and braved the rain. We cycled the Rainier Express chairlift as it was the only upper mountain lift open in the morning. The runs were bottomless Northwest pow!!!! And about our third lap the clouds parted and the sun broke loose finally lending some light!
Taking full advantage of this window of light we got in is many runs as possible before it sopped back in, and begin to snow again, only this time all the way down to the base.
Goes to show good things come to those who wait and keep an eye on the telemetry and hourly weather reports- Thank you NOAA!
