About the Oakley Splice Goggles:
Tech: Goggle technology is changing rapidly, and the Oakley Splice Goggles are at the forefront of it……but really, can goggles evolve any more? The big O thinks so. They are pushing the envelope with the patented O Flow™ arch allowing both better airflow and improved comfort around the nose area. Although when I put these on initially I did not notice any improved comfort, but after a day of use, the goggle was comfortable all day. What else? A semi-flush lens mounting system is also new, and offers superior downward vision as well as better ease of changing lenses.
The frame: The goggle was flex and bendy in all kinds of ways. Thanks to the O Matter® Chassis – Flexible O Matter® frame, this goggle conforms to your face and remains flexible even in extreme cold. Even though temps did not dip below 30deg the day of use, I believe Oakley with their claim. Walk in freezer anyone?
Breathing: Yes, better breathing?? True dat. Oakley also is telling me the O Flow™ Arch – which is a patented design, improves fit around the entire nasal area as well as allowing better airflow and breathing. Just like those nasal strips you put on your nose, these goggles are like a nasal strip but only goggles! I did not notice a change in breathing.
Helmet Compatibility: Oakley snow goggles are designed to work in harmony with a wide range of helmet styles, with outrigger mounts that distribute pressure evenly across the goggle chassis and silicone beaded inner straps that stay securely in place. 360˚ frame venting assures optimum airflow when worn with a helmet.
From the box: “LensAnti Fog – Dual vented Plutonite® lenses with F3™ coating, which allows the inner ballistic lens to absorb a minimum of 2 ml of moisture
Semi-flush lens geometry for improved downward visibility
HDO® Lens Technology – HDO® maximizes clarity and impact resistance, and gives you razor sharp clarity at all angles of view. HDO® lenses provide 100% UV filtering and the best impact resistance in the business. Note: Actual give-away color of frame may vary.”
Foggage: No fog gage day of use. Temps 27-32degF
Pro’s: Very well priced for Oakley. Their lowest priced (best priced) goggle. This is the work horse goggle. It will get the job done right the first time. No bells and horns or whistles, just a rad goggle.
Cons: Field of vision is limited. Not as good field compared to other models out there.
Location: Crystal Moutnain Resort, WA (March 2013)
